presenting nancy's big bad baby blanket! she used caron's dazzleaire in sunset ombre for the main color and wisteria for the border. i love the way she remixed it and made it her own!
she also knit a matching hat and booties!!
here is leanne's big bad baby blanket.
i'm definitely noticing a theme with the colors that people are choosing! please email me a photo of your completed BBBB and i will post it here.

Hi,
I bought Debbie Stoller's book last weekend and I totally fell in love with
the Big Bad Baby Blanket. I just love the colors, the fact that each color
on its own is a baby color, but all together they make an unusual color for
a baby blanket. Finally a baby blanket which is not blue, pink or yellow! I
want to make it for a friend who is having a baby in July. The only problem
is it would cost me about $120 CND to buy 8 skeins of Koigu PPM and I don't
think I am ready to spend that kind of money without being sure of the
results! Do you know of any other yarn I could use that would be a similar
color. I really don't want to go with the usual baby pastels? I am new to
knitting and I have been looking at other yarns, but I am not sure of the
thickness and all that.
Thank you very much for your help!
Stéphanie
hi stephanie,
it's true that this is an expensive project. i knit with 2 strands of koigu which makes it doubly expensive! however, you can knit the blanket using a single strand of a yarn that will get you a gauge of 18 sts= 4 inches. you will need about 800 yds. plymouth encore worsted is an affordable substitute that is available in a gazillion solids and multicolors. the beauty of koigu is that it is hand-dyed and each dye lot is unique. unfortunately, most hand-dyed yarns are fairly expensive. i look forward to hearing more about your Big Bad Baby Blanket. please send photos and progress reports!
